Susan B. Anthony, the feminist and suffragist leader, was born on February 15, 1820 in Adams, Massachusetts.  On November 18, 1872, she was arrested for voting in that year's presidential election.

Anthony responded to the criminal charge by giving one of the most famous speeches in American history.  She was convicted and fined $100, but she told the judge, "I shall never pay a dollar of your unjust penalty" -- and she kept her word.
